Bob Dozier K-31 Arkansas Traveler in Rosewood Burl and CTS-XHP Core Damascus
Bob Dozier K-31 Arkansas Traveler in Rosewood Burl and CTS-XHP Core Damascus
3" Nichols stainless san-mai CTS-XHP Core Damascus ground from .125" stock.
Handle length is 4" and is Rosewood Burl affixed with Stainless Steel hardware. This is Dozier's first attempt at a Damascus steel blade and I think it looks great. Personally, I've always liked san-mai and the advantages it gives in the construction of a knife. The core can be super hard and hold an edge, all the while the outer portion can be softer and tougher, providing a nice security blanket of durability to the overall knife. This is a cool variation as the outer layer is Damascus, which gives it the cool pattern, and the core is CTS-XHP which is very well known for being quite an edge holding steel.
This may just be the perfect size for whitetail deer. The handle is generous in length and the classic dropped point blade is a great size. This baby is very thin and has a great edge. I'd be inclined to take this into the woods and really see what it can do. But, in all fairness, this has the potential to become a collector's piece, so maybe this should go into the display case or on the wall. Definitely not in the safe as it is too pretty for that.
